School-based Professional Learning

School-based Professional Learning

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) includes several provisions that impact how educators experience professional learning.  ESSA defines professional learning as a learning journey and affirms that it should be collaborative, job-embedded, sustained, classroom-focused, and data-driven.  This definition focuses on school and classroom-based professional learning opportunities (U.S. Government, 2015).

The Office of Professional Development and Evaluation is committed to providing schools with the tools and resources to effectively implement professional learning structures that promote collaboration, peer-to-peer learning, and effective feedback practices that impact teaching and learning.
